Dance History & Benefits


 

Middle Eastern (ME) Dance is also known as Oriental Dance. ME Dance is a family friendly folk dance done by men, women, and children.  This is a very old dance which predates the modern world and was done in the temples of Egypt.  It is an art form that has a long history and continues to grow and evolve with various off springs.  Middle Eastern Dance influences Tribal, Fusion, American Belly Dance, and Cabaret forms of dance.  This dance has a variety of "dialects" which are similar but with slight variations between the styles such as Turkish, Persian, Ghawazee, etc.   

Middle Eastern Dance has many health benefits including: weight loss, increase in strength and toning. This type of exercise works all major muscle groups including a strong focus on all areas of the abdomen. The dance helps to improve posture, balance, and flexibility. Most importantly, belly dancing is fun and it can increase your self esteem by giving time to yourself , learning something new and challenging, and mastering your body to be graceful in movement!
